Changes in the Computer Server Industry: How They Can Affect Your Work Space
Posted by Joyce Vinzani on May 25th 2016
Though Moore’s law isn’t really a law, it certainly highlights a very real trend. And, generally speaking, there certainly isn’t much of an incentive against improving computing power or exploring new technologies. In fact, the only thing that one can truly rely on when it comes to tech, is change. This week we take a look at how some of the changes in the computer server industry can affect your workspace.
Security
As more of our precious information finds its way onto the internet, we will have to step up our defenses to combat the individuals that seek to maliciously use our information. For your business, this might translate to implementing added security features such as locking cables to prevent unauthorized access to servers.
The Law
A few weeks back, we talked about how to ensure your operations are PCI compliant. However, there are other regulations that need to be followed, depending on what type of business you are in. The more private the data, the higher the risk, and the greater the penalty for businesses that neglect the imminent threat of security breaches.
Floor Space
As more and more transistors can be packed into a dense integrated circuit, things will keep getting smaller. Because of this, equipment that might have taken up an entire room (or floor) a decade or so ago can be stored underneath your desk. Make sure that this equipment is stored properly, though, by utilizing the extensive selection of carefully engineered rack solutions such as the Kendall Howard 8U 18-inch Wall Mount Rack (Sku # 1915-3-001-08).
The cloud
Cloud computing and storage is revolutionizing the way that companies are capable of doing business. At one time, storage and computing meant that a business had to invest large amounts of capital into equipment, which could quickly become insufficient for a rapidly growing business. Now, cloud technologies make it incredibly easy for companies to scale up or down. This, too, has a tangible effect on the physical footprint that your servers have in your work space.
As the industry continues to evolve, we will see technology continue to streamline all areas of our business environment. More of the world will be at our fingertips and the cutting edge of 2016 will begin to look like a dull blade come 2020.
